QUIX STIX AS A SPORTS TRAINING SYSTEM FOR ATHLETES

Athletes are by their nature in search of competitive excellence and will persist in improving their skills using any number of methods or modalities. Baseball players have played ping pong for years, tennis players have a variety of drills using both tennis rackets, as well as a variety of drills, all of which are designed to improve balance, hand eye coordination, reaction times, anticipation, awareness, as well as gross and fine motor skills. The list of desired improvements is as long as the tools, methods and modalities that are used.

Because optimum Quix Stix play is at waist height given the precise physics required to maximize the catching action of the cup / baton on the stix handles, there is a direct correlation to a variety of sports that have a similar optimal play zone. These include baseball, hockey, tennis, golf, basketball, and cricket to name a few. In nearly all of these sports the lower body must adjust instantly to variations in height relative to the action of the hands / arms and upper torso. A baseball delivered in the strike zone varies as to position in a volume of space that is 17” wide but as much as 3’ long.

A great hitter must not only instantly anticipate where the ball will be at the optimal contact point, but just as quickly adjust his body height so as to harness the power of the lower body through the swing, and by extension via the arms and hands at impact. The Two Hands On One Stix Trix  is a perfect training activity for baseball players because it promotes reaction times relative to body height as well as the adjustment of the arms and hands relative to the bat / ball position.

Quix Stix play, particularly with both hands individually is of great benefit to nearly any athlete as the hands become lightning fast, and the body becomes keenly aware of the subtle adjustments required to optimize the required catching action. This catching action requires highly attuned Hand Eye and Body Coordination which promotes anticipation, and the precise placement of the hands at the point of contact with the cup end. Quix Stix improves proprioception. These skills are transferable to virtually any sport where quick reflexes combined with precision hand movement are an asset. The gamut of athletes who will benefit from Quix Stix play traverses basketball, baseball, badminton, golf, La Cross, Hockey, football, Cricket, Tennis, Martial Arts, motor sports, and even soccer (with off the foot trix).
